The Quest for 50

I’ve embarked on a Quest.  Some might even call it a Second Quest.

It’s a quest fraught with danger, menace, and hazards at every turn, a quest that involves a perilous journey whose conclusion is uncertain, a quest beyond the reaches of anything mere mortals can imagine, and a quest that will undoubtedly expose me to attacks by dastardly villains who’ll stop at nothing to thwart my goals.

Fantasy-speak aside: I’m looking for more online reviews of MFA Thesis Novel.

(Also, my apologies for the somewhat click-baity title, since I was looking for an entertaining way to lead into this topic and thought the whole pseudo-fantasy bit would be fun.  Keep reading, though, and I’ll explain more!)

How Do Online Reviews Work?

Indie authors like me get word out about their books with the help of reader reviews, especially on Amazon and Goodreads. Through the magic of secret algorithms that no one really understands, reader reviews help people find these awesome books, and here’s the kicker:

The more online reviews MFA Thesis Novel has, the more likely people are to find it.

Top-level researchers working for secret indie-book organizations have theorized that these sites use 50 reviews and ratings as a benchmark for recommending your book. While I was REALLY hoping MFA Thesis Novel would get 50 ratings its first year, I’m still 22 short on Amazon and 11 short on Goodreads. (D’oh!)

A lot of people out there have read MFA Thesis Novel and really enjoyed it.  You’ve sent me texts, posted about it on social media, video called to talk to me about it, or even hit me up in real life.  It’s super-awesome for me to talk to so many of you who’ve read and enjoyed the book, and I love hearing people’s opinions about it

If you’ve read MFA Thesis Novel and want to help spread the word, I’d really appreciate it if you could leave it an honest star review on Amazon and/or Goodreads. Your honest opinion is all that counts, and even a simple star rating can do a lot!

If you have time to write a few honest words for a written review I’d also be incredibly grateful: You don’t have to be a Roger Ebert-level reviewer to make a difference, I swear!

(If you don’t have a Goodreads account, I promise it’s super easy to sign up. It’s also a cool way to check out books, and you can even follow my Goodreads author page!)

I Really, Really Appreciate Your Help!!!

If you’ve already written the novel a review or given it a rating, first off, thanks again!!! If you want to help more, you can always cut and paste the same review to the MFA Thesis Novel page on Barnes and Noble, Bookbub, or The Storygraph.

I’ve tried to thank as many people for their reviews and posts as possible, so my apologies if I’ve missed anyone who took the time to rate and review this ridiculous novel of mine!  Your support really means a lot as I move forward and try to get the novel out into the world, and it’s a hard road for authors when you’re starting from square one like I am.

(Also, many of you know how much I hate Amazon for all the bad stuff they’ve done in the book publishing world and how badly they treat authors and small presses. While I’m really hoping that people reading this post can buy books locally or using sites like Indiebound, a lot of other people do use Amazon, and could conceivably find the book that way. So, though I never point people to Amazon, I don’t discount them entirely as a outlet for helping people find the book.)

Finally, because of conflict of interest rules, as an author I’m not allowed to offer anything in exchange for reviews other than my complete and sincere thanks (and even that might be a gray area??), so I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who’s helped so far and is going to help after reading this—it really does mean a lot!!!!
